What it is
PGS-India Green is the PGS-India certificate for land under conversion, so its produce is not organic yet. A Local Group can receive it after one chemical-free season, while the farm completes the rest of its conversion period. Like PGS-India Organic, it comes through NCONF's peer-guarantee system and is for sale within India only. It carries the PGS-India Green mark, not the PGS-India Organic one.
Who it is for
PGS-India Green is for farmers in a PGS-India Local Group who have started converting their land and want buyers to know it before the conversion period ends. It lets them sell honestly as in-conversion while they work towards PGS-India Organic. For a buyer, it shows a farm on the way to organic, backed by peer inspection and records. It is not a claim that the produce is organic today.
What the badge means on theorganic.in
A PGS-India Green badge is always amber, with the words "under conversion", and it never turns green, because the certificate itself says the produce is not organic yet. We still match its number against the register and check its category scope and validity date, as for any other certificate. If it lapses or is rejected it turns grey, and grey is never hidden. A later PGS-India Organic certificate can turn green.
How to get it
Join or form a PGS-India Local Group of at least 5 farmers, register through a Regional Council assigned to your state, keep records and take part in peer inspections. After one chemical-free season the group can receive PGS-India Green; PGS-India Organic follows once the conversion period is documented. Government assistance is listed as PKVY ₹50,000/ha over 3 years. For the full steps and the help you can claim, see Getting certified.
Questions people actually ask
How long does a farm stay on PGS-India Green?
Until its conversion is complete and documented; for perennial crops our dataset lists {pgsPerennial}.
What changes at year three?
Once the conversion period is complete and documented — for perennial crops our dataset lists {pgsPerennial} — the group can move from PGS-India Green to PGS-India Organic. That is a new certificate. When we have checked it, the badge on this site can turn green; until then it stays amber.
Why do you show PGS-India Green in amber?
Because it is a real, legitimate certificate that explicitly means not organic yet. Showing it in green would tell you the produce is organic when the certificate says it is not. Amber with "under conversion" tells you both things: the certificate is genuine, and the conversion is still under way.
