How we verify a certificate
The same four steps for a 200-farmer FPO and a national brand
Verification is never for sale and never affects ranking. Advertising buys a labelled slot, never a badge and never a position in organic results.

| TNOCD issues three separate documents: a Scope Certificate (your production is compliant), a Transaction Certificate (₹500, one consignment, needed for export) and a Statement of Compliance. A Transaction Certificate covers one shipment — it is not a licence for your whole catalogue, and this site will not treat it as one. | ||
Under FSSAI's Organic Food Regulations, direct sales by the original producer or a producer organisation to the end consumer are exempt from verification of compliance. You can list here, sell at the santhai, sell at your farm gate — legally, without certification. Your badge will read Direct from farmer · no certificate which is the truth, not a penalty. Certification is what you need to sell through shops, brands and exporters.

India organic, honestly
Public figures, with the date we checked them
Organic exports — five years, as they actually went
It fell for three years before recovering — soft global demand, trade uncertainty, and the 2022 delisting of some certification bodies in the EU cutting available capacity. If you are weighing up export certification, that is the shape of the market you are entering. National target: USD 2 bn by 2030.

Questions people actually ask
Do you sell these products?
No. theorganic.in never sells, never takes payment for goods and never ships anything. We verify certificates, list products and producers, show you where to buy, and connect bulk buyers to suppliers. Every transaction happens directly between you and the seller.
What does the green badge mean?
It means we have seen the certificate, checked the number against the issuing body's register, and it was valid on the date shown on the badge. Amber means it expires within 60 days. Grey means the brand has told us it is organic but we have not been able to verify a certificate — we show that honestly rather than hiding the product.
Can a brand pay to be verified or to rank higher?
No. Verification and ranking are structurally not for sale. Advertising buys a clearly labelled slot that sits beside organic results — never a badge, and never a position within them.
Is PGS-India "real" organic?
Yes. FSSAI's Organic Food Regulations recognise exactly two Indian systems — NPOP and PGS-India — and both carry the Jaivik Bharat mark. PGS works through a peer-inspected Local Group of at least five farmers and costs nothing; it is not accepted for export, which is what NPOP and USDA/EU certification are for. Watch the distinction between the two PGS certificates: PGS-Organic is full certification, while PGS-Green means the land is still in conversion. We show Green in amber, never in green.
Why is this farmer's product grey if they farm organically?
Grey means "we have not verified a certificate", not "not organic". Under FSSAI's regulations, a producer selling their own produce direct to you is exempt from certification altogether — so a genuinely organic farmer at a santhai may legitimately have nothing to upload. We would rather show you an honest grey badge and let you ask them, than hide them or pretend we checked something we did not.
I am a farmer. Does listing cost anything?
Listing your products and uploading a certificate is free, and verification is free. Sending a quote against a bulk requirement uses one lead credit, and you can earn credits with AgriCoins. If you are not certified yet: PGS-India costs ₹0 and PKVY provides ₹50,000 per hectare of assistance over three years.
